Zwei Sterne weil Zarathustra auch viele gute Ratschläge hat. Um diese zu erhalten muss ich aber nicht dieses Buch lesen, sondern kann auf viele andere Quellen zurückgreifen.
Dieses Buch erinnert mich an den Deutschen Geist. Hochmut, die Welt vor Augen und immer das Beste anstreben, um gleichzeitig andere zu diskreditieren.
Versteht mich nicht falsch, die Offenheit, sich von religiösen Dogmen "Gott ist tot" zu verabschieden ist hervorragend und zu Nietzsches Zeit brandaktuell gewesen.
"Der Übermensch", die Unterstützung von Krieg der Freiheit und des Sieges Willen, des Fraues Willen die Schwangerschaft und die Peitsche, keine Bildung dem Pöbel... All das hat leider dazu geführt, dass ich dieses Buch nicht ausstehen kann.
Respekt an den Autor aus einer anderen Zeit. Heutzutage lese ich lieber Siddhartha. Dieses Buch erinnert mich zu sehr an die Doktrinen des späteren Dritten Reiches.

Verily, never before have I read the word “verily” as much in my life before this book.
“Thus spoke Zarathustra” Nietzsche writes, every second passage, as a hook to punctuate the maxims of the overman (also referred to as higher men in part 4? Or perhaps higher men are the becoming-overman? Or is overman the becoming-overman…?). In this book, he tells the story of Zarathustra, a proselytising man who oft lives in a cave in solitude and also, among certain circles, gets elevated to the status of sage, bestowing his wisdom upon none and all.
Thematically, Nietzsche attempts to destroy the static morality of religion, thereby killing God, “O my brothers, break, break the old tablets!” he proclaims after having asserted that “Everything should be in flux … all the values of things, the bridges, the concepts, all ‘good’ and ‘evil’ – all that is firm.” [201-2] Replaced by the more positive philosophising in this text, which posits that “creating” and being a creator (contrasted to being a follower) is the path towards becoming-overman, “The will is a creator.” [141]
I won't attempt more of an exposition on core concepts for now (I'll reread this in a few weeks when Uni is less busy) but I will say that Gregory Sadler has an incredibly astute series on this text.
Reading this book, personally, was kind of a slog for the first 200 pages, but from 200-300 there is some quite profound and prosaically interesting writing and where I found myself starting to really enjoy the style and narrative, although I think when I reread it it will be more pleasurable and penetrative all through.
To finish, throughout the text I couldn’t help but internally come back to a quote from Joyce’s Portrait which was my favourite quote in that book even before reading Nietzsche. I feel this quote impressively sums up Thus Spoke Zarathustra (and perhaps hints at the influence of Nietzsche on Joyce? I’ll admit the reason I even picked this book up was because of the references in Ulysses) which goes, “He would never swing the thurible before the tabernacle as priest. His destiny was to be elusive of social or religious orders. The wisdom of the priest’s appeal did not touch him to the quick. He was destined to learn his own wisdom apart from others or to learn the wisdom of others himself wandering among the snares of the world.”
