Feeling nostalgic so why not reread Sailor Moon. I’ve only ever read the first two volumes of the 2011 editions and of course watched the anime. So at the moment this first volume is a refresher of what I’ve read probably ~10 years ago, but I’m not complaining

The anime is superior in terms of pacing as it isn't just a "monster of the week" thing - the anime has much more character development and the girls thinking about the path they have to take. In that vein, the manga lacks some urgency: we know a new character being introduced means (at this point) they'll likely be a new Soldier and therefore the day is saved. The stakes are supposedly very high, but everyone always ends up ok at the end, and any bad stuff is essentially reversed.

In saying that, this is a classic for a reason! This is SHOJO!!! The eyes? The details? It's all so gorgeous!! The art is so goddamn gorgeous the story could be non-existant for all I care. It's super fun, flowy and dynamic. I wish more manga had this fun sparkling vibe!

Some of the panels looked off, though I’m not sure if that is just this particular edition. The characters are so charming and the art so cute, I can’t help but want more! <3
