So. Like a lot of people my age, I LOVED Sailor Moon when I was a kid. I watched the show as often as I could and when a friend of mine bought a couple of volumes of the manga, I devoured it. And so when my wife brought this home, I figured I'd give it a try, for old time's sake. And, well.
Some things are better left as a nostalgic memory, if I put it like that x'D
That's not to say that I think Sailor Moon is bad now — it has a lot of wonderful ideas, pretty art, wonderful representation, and is THE Magic Girl anime/manga — but, if you remove the nostalgia? It's honestly not that good. The pacing is off, the character development is almost non-existent, there's no time to breathe in between the baddies and nothing to anchor the various events, every situation is magically solved by a hitherto undiscovered superpower (that just happens to activate at the right time), and even the sailor scouts' friendship — which I remembered to be very important as a kid — happens so instantly and without any sort of justification aside from "we're all guardians now so I guess that makes us friends?"
Also, everything in Tokyo is now two minutes away from each other or something, considering how quickly everyone manages to arrive at the same location. Unless Luna is literally teleporting everyone around, including the bad guys.
But that's obviously the adult in me talking. The kid in me still loves Sailor Moon dearly, because it gave me HOURS of joy and I loved how unapologetically girly it was — in the best way possible. But I really can't say that the manga is good by any definition of the word. It's passable, at best. So the majority of the stars are literally just nostalgia xD
