Alright but preferred the movie ngl. Character development was actually better in the film.

I came to this novel because of the movie, but stayed because of the illustrations and story. Now, the illustrations are not like today's would be, but they're interesting and eye catching in their own way. I could have done without the black and white, but even that's forgiven with how it brings in the reader, even with the lack of color. But, what really keeps one reading, is that story in front us and how loveable Alita is from the beginning. Can't wait to read more volumes.

I had seen a couple of different trailers for Alita when I went to the movies and while I didn’t think that it was likely that I would go see it in theaters, it definitely interested me enough to check it out sometime. I didn’t realize that it was adapted from a graphic novel until I saw Battle Angel Alita in Kindle Unlimited and with one of the challenges for a readathon being to read a graphic novel, I decided on Battle Angel Alita. It wasn’t what I was expecting to put it mildly, I never thought I’d be grossed out by a comic, but this one proved me wrong. I just have a thing about brains and eyes, I don’t like to see them messed with and I was thoroughly creeped out at times. I can’t really say that I enjoyed this novel, it made me roll my eyes, frustrated and horrified me at points, but it did keep me flipping the pages, I am intrigued with where Alita has come from, and even though I had thought that I wouldn’t be picking up any of the other volumes, that cliffhanger ending did make me want to. There were for sure aspects that I didn’t like, but it wasn’t all bad. Whether I’ll pick up the next volume is little up in the air right now, I’m not completely opposed to it, but it’s doubtful that it will be anytime soon though.

I enjoyed this first volume. I thought it was shocking and it kept me gripped, for the most part. I just think that there was maybe too much happening and the pacing was way too fast for me.

A dystopian syfy cyberpunk manga

The upcoming movie is what made me seek out this manga and I was not disappointed!

Alita is an amnesiac cyborg that is drawn to battle. The story is great and the art is fantastic! Alita is a badass and I will be finding more volumes to read...I want to know her secret past.

This was my first foray into new territory, and yes, I jumped on this bandwagon. But I'm so glad I did. This was phenomenal and I loved every second of it.

Alita : Battle Angel.

Thank you so much for this copy @bloomsburyindia ♥️

Coincidentally I started reading this book on Women's Day and it turned out to be an apt read for the occasion. In this male dominated world, it's such a welcome change to see fierce women who are aware of what they want and don't settle for anything else. Alita is such a story of a young girl who blossoms into a powerful woman and takes down the world of evil.
~
In the junk of Iron City, Dr Dyson Ido, Cyber-Surgeon finds a beautiful head of a young cyborg girl among the heaps of garbage that's get thrown down from the floating city of Zalem. Iron City lives off the scraps of Zalem, both the cities a home for cyborgs and humans. When Ido fixes the young girl into a beautiful cyborg suit, he names her Alita after his dead daughter. Alita doesn't remember her past or where she came from and immediately seeks refugee under Ido. But what she knows is that she's strong with warrior like skills and so she sets out to know about her origin.

Alita is by far my favourite fantasy fiction female character and I have many reasons to justify that. Let's keep aside the fact that she's a cyborg but Alita is still a human from the inside. Her heart oozes empathy and compassion to those who are pushed down by the society. She takes down big cyborgs and bad guys gracefully and along the way she realises that she's an extraordinary warrior from Zalem who has a mission to achieve. This book is unputdownable once you cross few chapters and I managed to finish this in just two sittings.

The story is unique and I could almost relay it in my mind though I haven't watched the movie. The characters are wonderful be it the protagonist or the villains. I couldn't help but admire how female protagonists are always so intense and brave teaching all the girls out here how to not be apologetic for the way they are. One of the things that I learnt from Alita is how strong women can be if they set their heart to it. A truly fabulous read.
