Okay, so if you are a girl, or have a girl child, you owe it to yourself to go get a copy of "Bloom" by Doreen Cronin and David Small. It's about a mud fairy and an ordinary girl who have to save the kingdom and it's wonderful and beautiful and even my son thought it was awesome. It's the heir to Paperbag Princess. You all really should get it.
I may have gotten a little teary at the end.
Maybe.
I also put it on my Christmas list so I can have my own copy.

So cute! An ordinary girl can make a big difference when she learns a skill and perseveres. Bloom and genivive are beautifully drawn. I wanted to read more about them.

Adorable, would be fun to read on a day that's going to involve some seriously muddy playing outside!

A fairy tale about how an ordinary girl gained magic from a fairy. A very long story.

An ordinary girl is sent to find the magical creature (a dirty fairy) to save the kingdom.

Like the message: "no such thing as an ordinary girl."

Adorable! I have never heard of a mud fairy, but I want to be one. It is probably my summer goal. Also, illustrated beautifully.

I found a new favorite to go with The Paper Bag Princess and The Worst Princess. Bloom is a magical fairy who is not appreciated because she is always muddy and walks heavily. She picks up and leaves the glass kingdom to live in the woods, and everyone is happy because they have focused so much on her short comings that they forgot how much she helped them. However, years go by and the kingdom is crumbling so first the king, then the queen go looking for her but reject the creature in front of them. Then they send an "ordinary" girl and things get interesting. I love, love, love the story! The writing is very good and the illustrations are beautiful. All around, this is a winner!

"There is no such thing as an ordinary girl." I ask you, what is not to love?

"There is no such thing as an ordinary girl."

One of the best lines I've encountered in a children's book. While I do wish there had been some sort of ability to keep the glass kingdom nice (especially when one of Bloom's powers is spinning sand into glass!) instead of just replacing everything with brick, I liked the idea that one very delicate girl still had the power to build things.
