In this mystery, you are the newest detective in Midsomer and have a suspicious death to investigate. At the end of each short chapter, you are asked what your next step will be and you will be referred to a specific chapter of the book based on your decision. Since I had the ebook, I could just click on the number and be brought to that section. Depending on your choices, you will get different clues and a different outcome. You may solve the case, fail in finding the killer, or be killed yourself! Once you've hit the end of the path you've taken, you will be directed to a Performance Review on your performance as a detective on your first case.

The mystery is fun and fitting of an English cozy - a regional flower competition between neighboring villages is the center of the book. I had fun reading the clues and trying to solve the crime. Based on my choices, I survived - but I didn't catch the killer. After I completed it once, I had fun going through it a few more times to see how the results changed. It's a book you can go back to and see if your detecting skills get any better by trying again with different choices. This is a fun book for any mystery fan, but if you're also a fan of the Midsomer TV series, you will especially love it.

Oh my gosh how I loved reading and playing this book. It took me right back to being 8 or 9 when I used to devour this type of book. I have often mused about how much I missed them and this book certainly filled this hole! From the start you are flicking back and forth trying to make your choices throughout the case. It is definitely a lot of fun and if you are a fan of Midsomer Murders you will love this.

The premise is that the villages in the county of Midsomer are having a ‘Villages in Bloom’ competition and one of the finalist has been found murdered the day before it is due to start. You are playing as a new recruit to the area, so as well as having to deal with the murder, you are trying to feel your way round your new job and also the local politics. Who wants an angry village committee for gods sake! I really liked the ‘performance reviews’ at the end of the book which told you how you had faired - very much like a rookie detective would get in real life I am guessing. Let’s just say I didn’t do that well, I think I was far too forceful in my decisions. I forgot about tack. Oh well. The beauty of this book is that you can read and play it over and over again and get a different outcome each time. Here’s hoping I crack the case a second time round.

If you are a fan of the TV series you will love this book and I had great fun as it was a proper escape from life. It would make a great Christmas present.

Let me know if you pick this up. We could do a dual read at the same time and see how we fair!

There's been a murder in Little Norton, and you are the new detective in town assigned to the case. You've just joined Midsomer CID, and what you know about England's deadliest county could fill a thimble. Who killed Peter Maddock by pushing two heavy shelving units laden with damson jam onto him, crushing him beneath the weight? Was it a rival gardener, hoping to knock out the competition for the Midsomer Villages in Bloom contest? Could it have been the chair of the village committee? Or her best friend? It's up to you to solve the case--and not get murdered yourself!

Could You Survive Midsomer? is a choose-your-own-adventure book for adults. Remember those? I loved those books as a kid. This one is every bit as much fun. Obviously, its readership is made up of fans of the long-running television series, "Midsomer Murders" (in turn based on the Inspector Barnaby mysteries by Caroline Graham). There are in-jokes that fans will get, like the reference to "lethally good" cheese.

It took me seven or eight read-throughs to finally solve the case, and I have to say, I didn't "die" once. I'm pretty proud of that. It's really more a game than a novel, but it's fun. If you're a Midsomer fan, you'll probably enjoy playing around with this book.

This was frustrating & fun. A “choose your own adventure” type of book to solve a murder.  I finished my quest  three times in one sitting.
