First off, I think this was a novella because at novel length they would have had to do a lot of explaining, and would have failed at it. At novella length, they can handwave and just push on with, "I know, but listen, this is such a great idea so never mind that and I'ma tell you what happens."

They nearly lost me at the key plot point when
Spoilershe blows up the AI, disabling the ship, then rebuilds an entire starship AI from spare parts using the manual and some hand tools.

Or in explaining how
Spoilerthe bad guys who don't exist yet are able to prepare the world they're going to exist in.
.

Still an intriguing idea, and told smoothly enough that we have to find out what happens.

I thought this was an excellent novella, once started, I couldnt put it down. The story could have been developed into a full length book and had more depth, but as it was, it was fast paced and engaging. I loved the sci-fi themes in it and the subtle love story that projected it forward. Again, would have liked to have read it as a full length book but I was really pleased with it. Definitely worth the time as it's only 170 pages.

3.5 - loved the premise, loved the love story (even tho it didn't really make sense?), I do think that if you want something of similar concept but prettier and tighter, this is how you lose the time war is that, which is probably why this disappointed a bit
