Don’t Get Caught was a very fun book and centered around a great idea. The characters were interesting and each brought something to the story. This was a 4 star book until the very end which eschewed the predictable ending somewhat at its own peril. Recommended reading if you want a quick romp of high school prank stories.

Hilarious! I love the many innuendos and puns throughout the novel (written by a fellow English teacher clearly) and the voice of the teen boy protagonist is so on point! Fans of Don Calame's Swim the Fly series and David Lubar's Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie series will love this one.

Reading Don't Get Caught is an adventure. It's so much fun and it offers plenty of laugh out loud moments. I loved Max's narration, the voice Mr. Dinan has used is beautiful. It's such a fresh and entertaining read, I didn't want it to end.

A fun book that some people will think it encourages kids to pull pranks and misbehave. I say it encourages laughing and some fun time with a book. I like Max, Ellie, Malone, Wheeler, and Adleta. They didn't know each other well until they are pranked. Then the prank wars begin.

I enjoyed the suspense of the book. Many of the pranks were humorous. Max found himself throughout the prank war and learned to stand up for himself and those he cares about.

I had a lot of problems with this book. Sure, I laughed, a lot, but it did not blind me to the issues presented. First, it is obvious to me that I am not the intended audience for this book, not that it matters much as a good book can make anyone love it. The second thing is that this book, while funny, dragged a bit for me near the middle. Still my main problem with this novel is that the characters are all total assholes.

These are characters who are out for vengeance after being publically humiliated in orchestrated by the infamous Chaos Club, an all secret, prank-pulling, school organization that has been around for almost 40 years. I liked the premise, I’m all for getting a little payback here and there but these kids took it way too far. It got to the point in which they were honestly messing with people’s lives. They flushed futures down the toilet for the sheer fun of it, or because they thought that they were doing the universe a favor by getting even.

I am not an adult. Technically yes, but not really. I don’t root for the one I like, I root for the one that is right and I could totally sympathize with the authority figures here that everyone seems to hate. Sure, the adults, especially the vice principal Stranko, were kind of terrible. Still, they were adults and had every right to be pissed. THERE ARE STUDENTS PULLING DANGEROUS PRANKS ALL OVER THEIR SCHOOL!!! I too would be pissed and angry and do everything in my power to stop it. He did not deserve that prank, that while it got him out of their hair, it also potentially ruins his life.

Kids are terrible people. This is just me stepping into my adult role.
Anyway, the book was funny. If you want to laugh, read it.

You see that start and finish date? This hasn't happened in over a decade. I literally couldn't put the book down. I wish I had this story when I was a teen and it reminds me of the best of what the 80's brat pack movie genre had to offer when I was a YA myself. Not that this book feels dated, it's just right for the times we live in, but it showcases the best thing about being at the cusp of adulthood, finding one's place in the world, discovering an identity among peers...all wrapped up in a heist caper and laugh-out-loud funny dialogue. When I was done I dropped the book into my daughter's lap and said, "Read this!".

Whomever has bought the rights to make the movie because this needs to happen.
