Silly and entertaining. Mr. Watson's chickens start as a well-intentioned home farming type project which quickly spirals out of control. Mr. Nelson is king of the side-eye as the chickens take over the farm. Unfortunately, Mr. Watson is pretty oblivious to the problems his chickens are causing (and why are they just his chickens -- introducing any new creature into a household seems like it should have some investment from all affected parties).
Some seek-and-find elements, some ridiculous chicken antics, and ultimately, a reminder that quality communication between two partners is a skill to be cherished.

Minor: Animal cruelty
Not so much animal cruelty, but rather animal overcrowding in fantasy conditions in which the chickens are fine. But the situation would not be fine in a more realistic picture book.
