This is one of my other favourite books in the chronicles, Pandora is such an interesting complicated character and very different to any other character Anne has explored or introduced. Her need for connection and love while being very closed off and cold is extremely interesting to read and that she eats their hearts to feel closer. I also found the dynamic between her and Marius very interesting as she perceives them to be married but also hates him and feels tied down by marriage. I love that this book really feels like a continuation of the queen of the damned, I like the dreams and visions Pandora was getting of akasha and her being isis and how one of the ancient burnt up vampires from queen of the damned who we didn’t know finally gets named. I also found the writing style very engaging and quite fast paced while being extremely historical and rich with the politics of Ancient Rome and Greece. The imagery was also extremely beautiful and the way the peristyles, clothes and scenery was described really drew me in and added to the story for me. I’d definitely recommend this book of you enjoy Anne’s very historical and cultural writing and liked queen of the damned. Pandora is extremely unique and very engaging and I’d recommend it to people who also have an interest and know about Ancient Rome and Greece.

I'm not particularly into vampire fiction, even as an avid Buffy fan -- it's another fad with a lot of crap and a few really spectacular pieces, much like any other genre has ever been. However, Anne Rice is good. Her vampires are people, but they retain their vampireness all the same. "Pandora" probably isn't the best example of her sagas, because it reads like one long, beautiful poem, but it's very good. I haven't read anything else by her yet; however, thanks to this, I plan to, especially if in her other books (as I've heard tell) she focuses more on narrative and plot than the flowery prose.
