Pirmą kartą lenkų autoriaus knygą skaičiau kita kalba. Ir vis pagalvoju, koks būtų įspūdis, jei skaityčiau originalą. Ar patiktų labiau? Nežinau. Autoriaus nepažįstu. Ar tie sakiniai visada tokie? Nes traukia…

Ką gi man priminė ši knyga.
AAAAA.

At the end of this very odd story, I am mainly left wondering what the point of it all was.

Cosmos
Witold Gombrowicz
.
This is one strange book! I stumbled upon it while looking at various lists of central and Eastern European authors and was curious to see what it was about.

I can only imagine what a massive undertaking this translation was. The translator strove to convey the odd syntax, cadence, and topsy-turvy feel of the original; I can only imagine she succeeded, because it’s equally vivid and unsettling.

Following Gombrowicz’s lead, we head into an absurd stream of consciousness and are left going hmmmm and what? The narrator is unreliable to the highest degree, but fascinating. It’s a picture into the imaginary worlds people sometimes create... not always for the better.

A masterful thriller. It seduces you into falling into the same mindset as the protagonist, looking for meanings within repeating patterns, until a serious turn marks a decided disgust that renders the story in a new, horror-full light.

A seemingly endless flow of allegations, encountering series, study on sign and signifiers, compulsions of the subject and object (aka cosmos).

I was ready to give this book 3-3.5 but the profound darkness it evokes is no easy feat, and I progressed to learn to enjoy it further and further into the story.
