Better in theory than in practice.

This made me feel all philosophical and existentialist.

3.5 stars.

I liked the message of the story (find your own story) and thought it was a creative idea but I thought the illustrations and all of the quote bubbles made the whole thing a bit busy and frustrating to follow.

This is a super cute story about a family who live in a book and each member of the family (even the pets) has their own story. All except for the little girl who tries her best to find her own story as she wanders through the stories of the other members of her family. It's probably something that would appeal more to older kids as you'd need to understand the references to fairy tales, mysteries and other types of books but I thought it was very sweet.

Another meta-book that's probably sophisticated enough for 5th graders (who rarely read picture books) so I fear it may never be read.

This one has a little girl who wonders what her story will be about. She travels through different genres, dismissing them all as not right for her. The best part is probably the way the book is angled so you really feel like you're looking down at the characters and they're looking up at you. At one point the girl even looks up and comments on your crazy reader face.

I love this book! The wacky characters that make up that family all have their own story except for the little girl. She struggles to find her story and in doing so she travel through various genres such as historical and science fiction to find her answers. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Yet another illustrator who doesn't know what knitting actually looks like but thinks he can fake it.
Cute concept. Loved the black on black beginning and ending where the characters are sleeping.

An entertaining "meta" story about a girl whose family lives in a book and is searching for her own story. Would pair well with [b:We are in a Book!|7846067|We are in a Book!|Mo Willems|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1327962539s/7846067.jpg|10953171] and has allusions to many fairy tales and genre tropes.
