An honest review thanks to Netgalley. This book is supposed to be a mystery; Jill is a detective, and we begin the book as she starts out on murder. It starts out well but declines ever so quickly. The whole book we barely see any investigating or any suspense from the murder. There is days in the book where it is not even mentioned. The romance between Sophie and Jill seems like the author just threw it in, most of the time I had no idea what was going on and I just wanted to give up on this book. I finished it, but I was and am greatly disappointed and am at the point where I don't know if I will pick up another of Nipper's books.

I have put off writing a review on this book because I was unsure of what needed to be said. It appears most of what went through my mind has already been written. I struggled with this book. I wanted to give up on it, but I convinced myself it would get better. I wanted it to get better. I guess I will begin by saying I have never read a book by this author, and knew nothing of the author. I usually actually enjoy trying new authors, because you never know when you will be surprised. This book didn’t do that for me, and I am unsure if I will be willing to give the author another chance. I live in Oklahoma so it was a bonus for me, I mean a mystery, set in my home state, a new author, my opinion the cover was pretty neat, unfortunately it was pretty disappointing.

While creative writing is very difficult for me, the best I can say is I would have done more research if writing this type of book. Several times during the book I thought I had skipped something. Did I skip something? I am unsure, but I was confused. I would go back to read a paragraph again, nope no more information. Still confused. I would decide to carry on, because it is a mystery and something exciting is going to happen… right? I feel kind of ripped off. I didn’t purchase the book, so I am not really ripped off, but I wanted it to be great. I wanted to love this book. This book sure did pile up the bodies though. A lot of dead people in Tulsa apparently.

I seriously hope the author doesn’t work in law enforcement. I mean I have grown up with family members that are in law enforcement and could write a better cop story than this. Sometimes people who handle guns poorly are funny. Like Stephanie Plum, I don’t think Jill is supposed to be funny. It may have been better if she were a little funny. I found myself shaking my head. I am reading a book and shaking my head going this woman is an awful cop. I hate writing these reviews, and that is why I waited so long to do so. This book is a difficult read, and not easy to finish. I wanted to be a quitter, and after it was over I wish I had given up and moved on. ARC provided by NetGalley for honest review.

Detective Jill Rogers solves crimes, I think.
Didn't like the characters, or the mystery and definitely not the language. Gave up half where through.
A NetGalley book.

Jill Rogers, a detective, is called out to several murder scenes in the middle of an ice storm. As she tries to figure it out, she stays with a former lover, Sophie, who she still wants to be with but Sophie is with Alistair.

There are several reasons why I thought this book missed its mark. For one, the main character was not likable for most of the book and second, it was quite weak as a mystery. I felt that it was all over the place with the different murders that occurred; the murder of the first person was never mentioned again in the book and Jill happened to find the serial killer to two victims. I felt that if the author focused more on one or two of the murders, it would've been a better developed story.

Nevertheless, I was glad that it was a short read.
