Reminded me of “The Thickety”, a series I loved as a tween, but with more complex themes / execution. Delightful read!

I really wanted to read this in October but didn't have time, but what a perfect book to read during Women's History Month.
Puritanical life in Bethel is turned upside down by a curse of Blood, Blight, Darkness and Slaughter as Immanuel learns about her families dark past and the towns even darker present.

Immanuel was the strong character I needed this month.  Her wonder, determination, and will propelled the story to horrific and at times satisfying highs.  Good for her vibes until the end.  Alexis writes beautifully and thoughtfully.  I loved every page.  Usually, I don't re-read books(mainly because my TBR would never dwindle) but I imagine this one will come back off the shelf.

"True evil wore skin of good men.  It uttered prayers, not curses. It feigned mercy where there was only malice. It studied scriptures only to spit out lies."

okay this book, had very little witches, mention of witches saying there is curses due to witches but nothing else. Horrorr I don't know really were maybe near the end. It is just a book taking place in history. It fewlt like some of the belief systerm was bases loosing off of mormon's beliefes(or something close to it).

I found the witch part of the story lack luster, I guess I wanted something a little more but it wasn'ted. I should have dnfed it because I was bored most of the time.

Will not read the 2nd book.
