i just got bored honestly. i wasn’t really liking the writing style. i tried to deal with it but i just couldn’t (the use of #goals on page 26. i cannot, oh my goodness). i wanted to at least get to page 50 but i was quickly losing interest. and i know i didn’t make it far enough into the book to say this but i wasn’t really feeling for the characters or at least starting to find them lovable. i was excited to start this book, mainly because of the sapphic romance but it’s just not my kind of book.

This was a fun romance. I love a boarding school book and I'm almost always a fan of the enemies-to-lovers trope and both elements work well here. I also very much enjoyed the American view of Scotland. I was a little wary that as a British person the idea of a current Scottish royal family would seem ridiculous but actually I thought it was done very well. I really could have done with another 50 pages because I wanted a little more from the ending, but overall it was a fun, easy read.

8/10. It made me cry, it made me laugh, it made me scream. It also made me yearn for a romance of my own similar to what the characters had so it did its job well. I recommend.

So cute, such an easy and enjoyable read! Some of the best written romance pacing/tension I've seen in a YA contemporary! really entertaining and adorable and one of those books that had me constantly talking to the characters :)

However, I have some qualms:
1. The pacing sped up a little too quickly near the end for my preference.
2. The amount of pop culture references. Hard no from me. (although, kudos to "maybe Veruca salt can be our always" for what might be the funniest line to include multiple pop culture references ever written)
3. WHY DID EVERYONE HAVE POSH ENGLISH ACCENTS? THE PRINCESS OF SCOTLAND SHOULD HAVE A SCOTTISH ACCENT!!! the only person in this book that had a scottish accent - despite the entire book taking place in scotland - was the old groundskeeper. it made absolutely no sense to me and honestly got on my nerves the whole time.

I had some issues with pacing throughout this book. The back half feels like it should be about 50 pages longer, and the ending specifically is very rushed. Even so, I still enjoyed it. It’s cute, the dialogue is fast and witty. Expect to ignore anything you may know about royalty in Britain. It’s pretty short, so if you’re looking for a quick enemies-to-lovers YA novel, it’s an entertaining read.

Really cute book with a believable slow-burn romance and very likable central characters, but the ending felt a bit rushed and some plot points were tied up in such a way that didn't feel satisfying.

Overall a cute enough book that I found easy to read quickly but the relationship didn’t feel developed enough, and the attempts to make the book seem “Scottish” mostly came across as corny
