Possibly my favorite of these yet, because it actually packed in a substantial amount of stuff-happening.

Currently sick with COVID but I am so happy to have books to read and to get back into Ms Marvel. Even though the show has premiered I love knowing who and what is going on in the series.

You can't choose to be a hero! You can only choose to do what a hero would do!

Okay, this is more like it. This volume brought back a lot of the affection I felt with the first volume. Not that there's not a lot of issues here.

First of all, we ended the last one expecting a big kerplooey of end of world events. Is this one of those situations where the big events took place in another super person's comic? Because I hate that shit. And it means there's a giant gaping hole in between volume 4 and 5.

Aside from that, though, we do get more of a Day in the Life of a Super Teen with this comic. Kamala is trying to balance life as a student, a family member, and an Avenger, and she's failing. A lot. She mostly just wants to be a super person.

On top of that, Bruno, her Platonic Friend*, has found a girlfriend. A rather awesome, vintagely fashioned girlfriend named Mike. Whom Kamala fat shames.

I am not okay with that. She acknowledges the wrongness when called on it, and the two of them are okay by the end of the book, but still. Unnecessary. Highly unnecessary.

So, yes, we're getting back some of the love, but I'm not ready to start throwing 5 stars around again.

* See Chris Rock's explanation of what a capital lettered Platonic Friend really means.

More team-ups. Now Kamala/Ms. Marvel is part of the Avengers and her life is more pressure-filled and chaotic than ever. Needless to say she is having issues finding a balance to her life because she wants to say yes to everything. She wants to do well in school, she wants to be there for the Avengers, and then there's her responsibilities for her family. With the Avengers, Loki, and Captain Marvel all making appearances in this volume, Kamala gets a little help and clarity. By the end she has told Iron Man that sometimes she really needs to be at school and then there are times where she absolutely has to be with her family, and it was nice to see Tony accept it so easily. I think now I'm all caught up on the Ms. Marvel bindups so I'll have to wait for the next installment, but I am greatly enjoying the series.
