It can be very funny, kinda fanciful with some of his "military tactics". Overall fun read for a quick no brainer.

3.5 rounded up.
Interesting plot and lots of action but also a bit long and lots of legal talk. I liked the environment and atmosphere as well as the moral dilemmas.

Not my favorite Reacher novel I've read so far, but the ending was by far one of the best I've seen from this series. I found it hard to like most of the side characters for a majority of the novel, which I think held me back from fully enjoying it. Still, I found myself thoroughly entertained throughout.

Not my favorite, it felt a bit heavy handed to me but maybe that's because I'm from Texas so the characterization of it as a place where any given person at a diner will say "we don't serve your kind" to a Latino minding their own business is a bit cartoonish and one dimensional. Obviously I accept that the author is British, and I have noticed he has an understanding of the US as a sort of wild west, where every small town is populated almost entirely with corrupt and racist individuals, but it's easier to ignore when he's talking about a place you're also unfamiliar with, as opposed to the place you grew up.
Also, the Carmen character isn't very reasonable. She's cruising the streets for some random guy to agree to kill her husband, but refuses to give her estranged parents a call? Like, she doesn't want to kidnap her kid and be a fugitive, but the fact that conspiracy to commit murder would also make her a fugitive doesn't seem to enter her mind? That whole aspect of the storyline is very weak.

Echo Burning is difficult to rate and review. Because it's not anywhere near as good as the last few Jack Reacher novels, but it's better than the first. This one takes a long time to get into the 'page turning, pulse racing, thriller' section. A long time. Almost too long. For more than half the book, the only interesting thing in the entire book is the watchers. And the team. Otherwise, it's a rather run of the mill fiction novel, with a plot so broad it's hard to pin down the correct genre. Once Reacher puts some pieces together, then we get to the reason to read Reacher novels.

One of the things I dislike most about this series is how abruptly they end. With everything getting tied up in a neat bow far too quickly.
