DNF at 21%. 3.5+ hours and I just don’t care. I’m not saying protecting an abused woman isn’t a noble cause or can’t be an interesting story, but it took 3+ hours just to find out what the hell Carmen wanted.

Reacher would ask questions and “She said nothing.” Carmen would ask questions and “Reacher said nothing.” The phrase “said nothing” is in this book 194 times. (Thanks kindle search)

Maybe I’ll try to pick up the series again at some point but this isn’t holding my interest at all, especially when there’s another 14 hours to go.

Narration:
I liked Dick Hill’s narration, though he sounds a bit old to me after listening to Johnathan McClain for the last three books.

Another solid entry in the Jack Reacher series! I really enjoyed the deep web of connections and conspiracies in this one. Can’t wait for book #6!

3 and a half stars

I was surprised when I saw some "starred reviews" for this book and thought it was going to be something else (as in amazing). Instead I probably liked it less than the first four in the series! See what happens when you go in with too high expectations?!

This book took me quite a while to get into. I'm still not sure after five books, what I think of Jack Reacher as a character. In this book he finds himself in Texas, hitch-hiking on his way to both anywhere and nowhere. He is picked up by a young woman, Carmen, who has an interesting proposition for him. She has been beaten by her husband for years but as he has been in prison for eighteen months she has been safe for that time. However he is due to be released in a few days time and Carmen has been out on the roads searching for the right kind of man that she could pay to kill him. The situation is more complicated than it seems and Reacher has to use his investigative skills to get to the truth.
