Docking one star because of the pregnancy thing, but other than that a really well-written story. The narrative was cohesive and easy to follow despite spanning myriad decades and perspectives. I liked how no one character had a more interesting story than the other, because in the end they’re all part of the same story. I think the message of love and family being strong enough to weather the storm is phenomenal, and wonderfully explored throughout the book’s discussions of south Asian conflicts in the wake of wwii.

The story was really interesting and engaging. It was hard at parts to keep track of all the characters

Each perspective was beautifully written. The story unfurled in a manner that made the connections between characters meaningful and impactful.

A random library grab. A 5 🌟 international, multigenerational, multiple narrative, time-hopping literary fiction #ownvoices novel set in the Bay of Bengal and Washington DC (among other places).
.
I went into this one completely cold and it ended up being one of my most memorable reads of the year. And THAT is what mood reading does for me ~ it lets me pick up the exact right book for the exact right time and sets me up for an optimal reading experience. I needed one that would force me to slow down, pay attention, puzzle out connections and take me to another time and another part of the world. This one did it all for me.
