This book should come with trigger warnings. Although I must say that this book was beautifully and profoundly written.

I've put off reading this book for a long time because contemporary romance really isn't my thing. If I knew it was more about sad fucking bitches being lost in life and changing each other for the better than about romance per se, I would have read it a long time ago. Nice.

2.5 stars. So hard to review, I'm torn. Initially it had me hook, line and sinker. But once we got into the college years I started to get frustrated with Marianne and Connell - or myself. Not sure which. Perhaps all three. I kept questioning whether I was missing something, or just being thick. By the end of the book I was shaking my head whilst reading...what the...is going on!
At times Rooney writes beautifully, but at others seems to add words for the sake of it.
My belief that I'm not on the same page as the literay award reviewers is once again confirmed.

I get the hype. I can’t say that I understand the hype, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say that it is undeserving of it. I felt that Rooney did a great job of encapsulating those wonderful, yet harrowing, relationships of a lifetime. She also created these two polarizing and enigmatic characters that come together beautifully, and if you’re lucky enough you can see pieces of yourself in them. Marianne and Connell are two characters I don’t see myself forgetting any time soon. Despite the forgettable situations they found themselves in along the way.

Connell is an asshole.

I honesty don't care if there's quotation marks in a book or not, but the author's writing is really boring and just not my cup of tea. There's no plot in the story and I really wanted to finish this book so badly but it got me into a reading slump... I did stay up late trying to finish this, even though I tried to dnf this book.

I’m finding it a little difficult to gather my thoughts. At first, I got a little confused with the no quote marks, but quickly got used to it!
