Love the novels of this series, good fun - great heroine. Good read for the early pre-teen YA reader in the steampunk genre. (There is also a graphic novel series - Girl Genius, but I haven't read those).

Enjoyed this even more than the first Agatha H book.

How is it that a novelization of a graphic novel I'd already read still compelled me at a fast clip through 461 pages? The romance between Agatha and Lars is so sweet and believable. He is a good first love. Sigh.

Things are revealed here that aren't in the GNs. In book one, we learned Dupree's family was mysteriously killed. In this book, we can infer who did it.

Who is the baron's long lost wife? When did Gil learn he was the baron's son? Did Gil and Dupree have an affair in Paris?

This second book in this series was far more enjoyable to me than the first. I laughed out loud many times, enjoyed the plot and the characters, and truly appreciated the writing style. The comical footnotes were also a great addition!

I didn't realize it was 515 pages when I reserved it from the library. This story continues immediately following book 1 and it was a fun ride. Lots of originality, humor and surprises. Foglio kept me guessing (incorrectly) throughout the book. I preferred book 1 probably because at the time for me it was new and fresh. I'll wait before starting book 3.

Too long, too many groups of people to try to keep track of, and a difficult time trying to decide who was a bad guy. I mean I know that's a thing, but it was a bit too convoluted. And I don't even know where the title came from.

Note: some of my dislike may be because I had to listen at normal speed; I'm in the habit of listening at about 1.5 speed, so this felt a little like everyone was talking in slow motion.

Marie effortlessly switched gears. "Goodbye, my dear," she said with a tear forming in her eye. "Try to stay good." She enveloped Agatha in a tight hug and whispered. "But if you simply can't, at least remember to enjoy yourself."

Over the years to come, Agatha would often vacillate as to whether this was the best or the worst bit of advice she had ever received, but she had to admit, that she never regretted following it."
(458-59).

That made me laugh. All sorts of tension in that statement.

this book was laugh out loud funny many times. Too many characters for me to keep track of some times, but I know it worked on the comic page. Plus, Phil Foglio appears, not all clothed as the circus master! That made me snort.

12/29/2019 -I did not fully appreciate before that this book has several actual dungeon crawls in it. Or how metatextual it is. The authors are characters, and one is literally thinly veiled. Great fun.

The audible narrator sounds like that annoying default text to speech voice on TikTok.
