This I LOVED from Cardeno! The fact that from the 1st chapter the characters tagged at my heartstrings and never let go was something I didn't expect since most of the books I've read from him, always start promising but somewhere in the middle I start to lose some of the interest I started with. But not with Johnnie!

I really can't wait for the next one in the series.

Oh almost forgot, the reason it lost half a star it's 'cos even though Hugh and probably the lion shifters as a whole can't understand the premise of love, since when it comes to the sexual/pro-creating aspect of their lives they have more lion characteristics than human, I'd still would have liked for Hugh to reach that conclusion(view spoiler) on his own, than have Johnnie kinda explaining the birds and bees version of it xD

I love Cardeno C but this wasn’t really a match for me. One character is literally enslaved to another. He’s not given a name. No one bothers to notice him until after he nearly dies by suicide. And no one even realized it wasn’t his first time trying. No matter how doting the guy is on him after, doesn’t make up for this for me.

That was so good. Wow! I can't say it enough. Shifters. Cardeno. And in narration by Greg Tremblay and uhm. Yeah, baby! Totally, my kind of story.

Listened to this 5+ hour audio book practically in one go. Oi!

What a great surprise! It was a sweet romance with high heat and not too long so it didn’t feel like it was dragging. I really enjoyed it!

There should definitely be a cw for attempted suicide and depression.

As for the story, it was hard to read the first time, but I have since read it again and I love the concept.  I wish the author had written additional books in the series.

Loved this shifter story

This was a beautifully written exploration of how loving someone changes the way you see them.

Johnnie had no name or identity outside his role as the Siphon, a rare lion shifter whose purpose was to take the excess power from the pride's Premier until he tried to end his life.
This almost killed the Premier too and this meant Hugh started to notice the lion shifter who'd been at his side for a decade.

Watching them find the uniqueness in each other and the additional strength their growing relationship brought was a delight to read.

I loved the realisation that human emotions like love could be true for lion shifters too and their emotional connections got stronger as they spent more time together.

The virgin sex scene was sexy but also packed full of heartfelt emotions and meant more than just the physical. I'd love to read more about this pride of lions.

~ 3.5 stars ~

That was a sweet and easy story without much drama.

I liked the slow burn and how the MCs figured out 'human' emotions but I was a bit confused about the set up of the story.
SpoilerIf the Siphon is so important and responsible for the well-being of the whole pride, why would they treat him like a piece of furniture??
When I looked past this and just went with it, it became an enjoyable read.

2nd, 3rd, 4th re-listen. This is one of my most frequently re-listens (even though I have only marked it thrice), because it is such a comfort and it had never, ever lost its hold on me.

From the first moment of feeling Johnnie's pain of how much neglected he was and how everyone treated him as part of the furniture, for all that his position was a significant one, to Hugh realizing how badly he mistreated him through that neglect and stopped thinking that Johnnie was trying to hurt the pride but instead was trying to find a way to free himself from an invisible existence, to them spending time together and coming together to them falling in love and learning from their mistakes... an incredible ride and I really hope that Cardeno will write at some point a continuation to the series. Maybe about the Siphon to come in the Berk pride.

5 SUPER STARS!!!

I love Greg Tremblay and I'm so happy that he did the narration of Johnnie which is one of the books I love the most! His voices as both Hugh and Johnnie were perfect. His narration was a DREAM!!! So much so that I highly doubt I'll ever re-read the book but opt to listen to it, 'cos that was magic.
