#6 Eddie Collins

I am a big drum beating fan of this series, so I was very excited to read this book.
We get to know more of Eddie’s past in the shape of Alex. A murdering psychopath of an ex girl friend who is incarcerated in a secure psychiatric unit.

It took me awhile to settle into this one. The first part sets the history between Alex and Eddie, but I had trouble following her thought processes which were all over the place. I also struggled with one of Eddie’s actions at a crime scene, he offered no explanation for what he did. I didn’t feel that the first section flowed as smoothly as the other books.

It’s nice to see a familiar name crop up- Dee Groocock. Also the dedication to David and Caz for their work promoting indie authors through their book club. Take a bow both.

Little things that Eddie’s dad Charles and Sid his secretary does makes me like them even more.

As the book progressed it drew me further in and as always ended up loving it. Its very dark and quite emotional in places which I enjoyed, but doesn’t make for the easiest reading.  We also see Eddie at his very worst, he isn’t at all likeable in this book. I hope that we see more of his more endearing qualities in the next book, he dies have sone, although you might not guess it if this is your first book.

The ending is good and left me open mouthed, and keen to see what’s in store next for Eddie.

My Thoughts:

If you haven’t read any of the Eddie Collins series, go read them all! While this can be read alone, this is book 6 in the series and brings back a character from an earlier novella, The Note. When you start to read this you will realize that Part 1 is The Note, but don’t skip it! It’s a revised edition told from a 3rd Person POV rather than from Eddie’s which was what e read in the original, and its an integral part of the story.

Part 2 is where the “new” story begins. Eddie is his usual sarcastic (and somewhat mean) self and is now in charge of the Forensic unit, although reluctantly. He becomes the target of his first girlfriend Alex, once again, after she escapes from Juniper Hill Psychiatric Hospital where she was placed after the events four years ago.

While we learn some more backstory on Eddie and why he is how he is, we also follow along as Alex tries once again to kill Eddie, who is on the top of her list of men who have wronged her.
This is yet another great installment in a thrilling series that I highly recommend. Eddie is not always a likeable guy but you will still find yourself liking him regardless because everyone knows that one person who comes across as the person you really want to hate but can't. No matter how hard he tries to hide them, Eddie’s emotions and good nature always seem to come through.

Thank you to Andrew Barrett and Rachel’s Random Resources for the review copy and allowing me to take part in this blog tour.

What a story!
It was a fascinated story about Eddie Collins, CSI from Leeds, England.
It is darker than the previous ones from this series, full of suspense. It gives us a new look of the main character, something that is hidden under his sarcastic facade that he probably had from his unfortunate life. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books from Andrew Barrett.

OMG, what a thumping good read. A book that grabs your attention from the very beginning and keeps it right to the very end and when you reach the end you feel almost bereft that the roller coaster ride you've been on is over. Andrew Barrett is a master story teller, weaving the threads of the characters lives in with a compelling plot.

Eddie Collins is endearing in an obnoxious kind of way, scarred by his past and scared of the present/future. His character flaws make him all the more appealing, his jaded outlook moulded by his experiences. His interactions with others are spot on, the language used makes him all the more real. His bluff and bluster acting as a layer of protection against all he's seen and dealt with.

If you love British crime thrillers then look no further, I cannot recommend this book highly enough and can't wait for the next in the series as I hope we'll learn even more about Eddie.

I received this book as an ARC in return for writing an honest review which I am more than happy to do.
