The Murderbot Diaries has been on my TBR for entirely too long. Having listened to the first installment on the opening leg of our recent road trip, we are very glad that, when I borrowed the first novella from the library, I had the foresight to download the second volume at the same time.

So, on our return trip, we got to go on Murderbot’s mission to discover how he earned his name. But, bonus of all bonuses, we also got to meet ART who immediately began competing for title of “our favorite robot.”

This was another fast-paced, quick read. Because of the snappy dialogue and rapid plot movement, it is a perfect choice for a road trip read. Be aware, though, if you have kids along for the ride, there is a now-reassigned/slaved “sex bot” as well as gun violence.

I love these books!! I really love the dry humour, and how the moments of action are balanced out with Murderbot's thoughts and exploration of personhood. I love how Murderbot keeps (only somewhat reluctantly) adopting the various humans that need its help, soon enough it'll have an entire army of human friends

I also particularly enjoyed the friendship between Murderbot and ART - I'm really hoping that ART shows up again in future books! Also the narration by Kevin R. Free continues to be top tier

Two complaints: that these books are too short (would prefer if sooner if these shorter ones were combined as a longer one), and keep ending without closure. I guess that’s why I’m now about to start the third book…

On my journey to reread the series since I haven’t read the latest installments and wanted to refresh myself on everything.  This one was used to develop more background and history of Murderbot, as well as introducing a new bff, more friendly humans that produce emotions, and also some insight into different constructs.  It felt more like a bridge for what comes next since it was setting up quite a bit.  Still an enjoyable romp.
