This had taken me so long to read as I have been reading it alongside my fortnightly home group meetings.

Wright does a great job of making a theologically deep text approachable without losing any meaning or being patronising .

Like much of Mr. Wright's commentaries, this is a particularly good one that is both easy to read and insightful. And this is especially useful for the last long epistle prior to Revelations as there are some elements of the letter that are likely to confuse new believers and maybe a few older believers too. I have in mind here the part about the priest Melchizedek and how he fits into Jesus Christ's priesthood. Mr. Wright does a great job of navigating us through these passages and reminding us of the elements of the Mosaic covenant (i.e. the laws let down in the first five books of the Old Testament), even when it is mentioned in passing, and then showing us how the writer of Hebrews uses this to point to Jesus' superiority over the Old Testament laws. Like all his other commentaries, he takes a passage of a few verses and breaks it down in four or five pages, usually by starting with some kind of anecdote. They read a lot like mini-sermons, so the format should be comfortable to anyone who is new to using Biblical commentaries as supplements to their devotional reading of the Bible. I still highly recommend this series to both new and old believers alike.
