I stayed up way to late 5o finish this intense, action packed book. Very good read. Enjoyed the main character immensely and the non stop action. I felt the story flowed well. I will look forward to more books by the author and hope to see Harley again!

My taste in books usually has me reading less violent stories. I began to like and cheer for Harley even though her life choices didn't always mesh with my ideas. The story itself was well told and written. 87

I'm giving this book a high rating because it seemed genuinely fresh.

The story and perspective were not an over used, cliche trope. It was gory, more so that I would have liked. Full of unsavory characters. Morality was absent. And it was a book of good.

For a good period of time, I was thinking this would be a DNF, which was a huge disappointment considering that I'd loved Far From You. However, I instead set it aside for a while, before coming back a couple weeks later and giving it another go and managing to finish it. That's not to say it wasn't sometimes a slog - I felt like the story moved a bit too slowly for my taste, and that made it feel much longer than its 400 ages. Ultimately I found this book to just be okay, with a character I had a hard time connecting to, and a plot that I should've felt more interest in considering the stakes. The way this was told, with flashbacks to Harley's childhood/teenage years and the present day, didn't really work for me, and I found myself skimming several of the flashback chapters. There was one small part where I teared up, and a chunk of chapters that I found thoroughly engaging, but in the end this was just not my favorite, and it's a book I'm most likely going to forget all about in a few days. A major bummer, because I really thought I'd love this, but alas. We can't always get what we want, right?

I absolutely loved this.

I think I will read everything Tess Sharpe ever writes. I loved the two ya books of hers that I read, but I think I might have loved this debut adult one even more. Her writing style really appeals to me, and she crafts really interesting characters. I loved being in Harley’s headspace. I think she is one of my favorite new characters. Gosh. This is a heavy one that deals with a lot of violence (domestic, sexual, etc) but it is also a story of a woman crafting a place for herself and survivors through all of that and it is just so so good. I’ll def be coming back to this at some point for sure.

The beginning hooked you, the middle was slow, and the ending made you want to continue to read. I like the development of Harley and how each chapter is present and then past to learn about Harley. Not the biggest fan of the ending, but I like how the story played out. I cried once.

Really good female-driven crime thriller that stalls and loses momentum with the needless flashbacks. Those prevented it from being great but it’s still a quality work of rural noir. A deconstruction of the Hashtag Badass Woman trope, it reminded me of The Handmaid’s Tale in a weird way because it was largely about a woman navigating a violently patriarchal system and discovering her own power.
