I wanted to like this. But the narration bored me to the point where I considered giving up on it. Maybe it would have been better if I read a physical copy on my own. Once Ken starts talking about the birding week things get more interesting and I think, "oh you can sense his energy now". But prior to that it was a pretty intense snooze fest even though there were interesting topics being discussed.

A beautiful book, equal parts evocative and educational, full of wonder and laced with sadness. I wish I knew Kenn Kaufman; in this book he might be describing my own deeply held feelings about birds and the reverent practice of seeing them that we call "birding", as well as my sometimes overwhelming despair at the destruction of our natural world. I feel less alone, somehow, after reading this.

A must for nature lovers. I wish everyone would read it and be inspired to protect our living Earth.

I enjoyed the descriptions of the various sequences of migration and the timing of each species arrival. After reading this book, I am trying to figure out a way to make a trip to this area to experience a part of this fascinating event.

Every year millions of birds journey north through America. This book is a celebration of their travels, and of the community of people who lift up their eyes and experience the wonder of migration. It simultaneously chronicles the migration patterns of birds through northern Ohio, explores the experience and culture of birding, and examines the threats facing flights of birds and how they might affect future migrations. This beautifully written book is a great introduction to the world of birds, while also calling forth memories of past years for those who have spent their springs watching the ducks, sandpipers, and warblers pass through the ponds and forests around them.
