The middle dragged for me as the characters made and abandoned multiple plans. Main character is certainly flawed and aware of some but not all of his flaws. Wouldn’t pass the Bechtel Test. Thoughtful ending.

Ford's latest and best Bascombe novel. Sad, funny and beautifully written. Ford skewers the anonymity of suburban life alongside the piercing sadness of individual grief. Surely one of the great American novels.

Compared to other books I have read this year, this one is crap. Offers nothing distinctive or new.
