*Big thank you to NetGalley/Publisher who sent me this book in exchange for an honest review*

I usually dont like books about security guards and their clients falling in love. I've read a few books with similar plots and they always seemed a bit cheesy to me.

This one wasn't one of those. This is one of those books that feels and reads completely organically. I loved the tension of the backstories, I thought that Jezebel was a very dynamic character and I thought that James was really swoon worthy.

The book read fast, was definitely a page-turner and definitely worth the read.

Lies We Keep is book one in this series. This is a new author for me and I really enjoyed this story. Jezebel is an author who has a stalker and hires James to be her bodyguard. There are some really steamy scenes and look forward to book 2

This was my first read by this author and definitely not the last. This was a fast read, with a well written plot, plenty of sexy scenes and full of suspense. The connection between Jez and James was instant with plenty of heat. Highly recommend this book.

This is the first book that I have read from Danielle. This was enjoyable from beginning to end . There was definitely some intense moments in this one with her stalker hanging out. But you can definitely see the chemistry the moment these two meet. James Blakely comes to work for Jezebel as her bodyguard. But there is so much more between them. But there is also many lies between them which could hurt them both. Well.written from beginning to end. Amazing characters great chemsitry.

Okay wow, how had I not known of this author until now?? What an awesome read.

So Danielle Rose is a new author to me, and I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this book, and I was pleasantly surprised, I really enjoyed it. From chapter one I was pulled in and totally captivated, needing to know what the hell was going on.

Is Lies We Keep, we have James and Jezebel, James a bodyguard and Jezebel a young author. When Jezebel discovers she has a stalker she has no choice than to hire someone to keep her safe, and that someone is James.
Jezebel wasn’t keen on hiring anyone but had no other choice, so when she finally found someone she comfortable with, he became her personal bodyguard, and hell it didn’t hurt with the fact that he was So. Damn. Hot.

But can they keep it professional? From the beginning, there is this immediate attraction between the both of them and the attraction only grows, and they continue to push and pull, struggling to try and keep things professional between the two and ultimately without a doubt it fails, and they find themselves all wrapped up in each other. James fears he can’t protect her properly now that things have progressed between the two of them, and that their personal life will get in the way of why he was hired in the first place, to protect her.

There is more to James than him being a bodyguard, he’s harboring some really personal baggage which was made obvious at the very beginning, but he’s not opening up about it to Jezebel or anyone, he’s tight-lipped, and he continues to struggle through it on his own.

Will these two be able to make this work? Will they be able to navigate not only a personal relationship but a professional one too? Will they be able to separate the two?
Will we find out who this damned stalker is?? So many questions have gone unanswered, and I can’t wait to find them in book 2!!

This was a fantastic start to what I have no doubt in my mind will be an incredible duet! The author is flawless, her writing flowed easily and it was easy to get lost in this plot. She keeps you on your toes and kept my attention from page one to the end of the book.

Oh is this story a roller coaster of unexpectedness! The whole concept is a brilliant one and I found I couldn’t put it down because I really needed to know what was going to happen. I adored Jezebel from the start. She was sassy and witty who goes for what or who she wants. James is really reserved and hiding something. But their chemistry is sizzling right from that first meeting! I loved how the author incorporated the author process in this story as Jez is an author! There are some pretty epic twists and turns that leave you breathless as well. The whole bodyguard thing is taken to a whole new level. Honestly, that one movie.. You know which I am talking about, has nothing on this book!

***I was provided this book by Netgalley and Rose Books in exchange for an honest review***

4.5 Stars (This book was almost perfection!)

The Breakdown:

So, WOW! Right from the very first sentence, the first paragraph I was hooked! This fast-paced page turner is going to give the Fifty and Crossfire series a run for their money! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED IT IS HOTT & STEAMY! If you can’t take the heat stay far, far away from the kitchen that Jezebel and Blakely are occupying! Or any other room/vehicle/closet they might be near!

ONE DAY. I read the entire book in one day! In one sitting! I could not get enough! This could be one of my favorites for the year!

Jez is a very successful author of adult smut who lives in Manhattan. She lives off the grid as far as celebrity lifestyles go and is a very private person. Which has made her lonely and alienated from the outside world? Part of this comes from a tragedy in her life before she became successful. Cue stalker. How can one person shatter her entire sense of comfort and easy lifestyle in one fell swoop? He has found the real Jez that hides among the multitude of NYC and flaunts his presence in her life every time she lets her guard slip, for even a moment. Therefore, she is forced to hire a bodyguard and James Blakely is the man for the job. Which job she isn’t sure of -Lover, Bodyguard, Friend with Benefits, Protector, Personal Sex God. The possibilities are endless!

The Characters That Make the Book Delicious!

Enter the reason for the 4.5 stars that I gave the book. It was not that I did not love the book or that the character build was a left down that left me bereft. No, the reason was their weak backstories. A clear majority of the book is centered around two people trying to overcome a past that completely haunts them but when the mysterious circumstances are revealed they are more like a bad tabloid cover stories. I won’t give spoilers, but I did not see how the events that led these two to be so completely cut off from the world was any more devastating than the everyday things that most people go through.

Mr. Stalker is a weak character and I did not like his tie into Jez’s present world. It seemed too cheesy and random. (I must admit that the morbid spot in my heart thought for sure that he had killed Jez’s elderly neighbor and was living in the apartment under her, so he could be close to her. I mean why else would the author keep talking about how recluse the nameless neighbor is? And how the stalker so easily monitors Jez’s every move without being seen? But, alas my dark outlook on the world was just hoping for death and destruction in this Romance and it was not rewarded with any such wickedness!)

Jezebel lives in two different worlds with two different monikers. In one world she is the queen of steam and sex who burns up the pages with sass and depravity. On the flip side of her coin, she is a lonely recluse whose only real companionship comes from Mr. Dependable and his fresh supply of batteries. Jez has cut the world off and cannot relate to anyone new that she meets. The types of people that she meets only wants or thing or another from her. To see exactly how dirty, she can be outside the pages or they are appalled by what she does for a living. Something changes in her when she meets Blakely and he might be the only person who can see through her façade and help her learn to love herself. And hell, if she gets some hardcore action to boot? Why not!

I really connected with Jez as a character. I don’t like going out in the world or meeting new people and I wear a mask of fake happiness when I am forced into such situations. I am proud to say read/review/write daily, but I am also misunderstood as these are not the normal 9-5 job setting.

James Blakely is a sex god born in modern times and he knows the effect his presence has on a room when he enters. He is everything a book boyfriend should be! Sexy, pushy, secure in his masculinity, compassionate, broken in his own way, and completely engaged with his lady! There was more to Blakely than just his looks. He really starts to fall for the real Jez that she does not the world see. He wants to do more than just protect her and it scares him! Just like Jez, he has never been an open person and uses his job a crutch from the reality of the world and the darkness in his past. The same about of vulnerability that Jez sees in him is enough of a crack to let her wiggle her way into his heart.

Conclusion:

I really did love this steamy, passionate story. I believe that anyone who loves the Fifty and Gideon Cross novels will appreciate this reversal in roles! As Jez is the aggressive one and when she knows what she wants she goes after it!

There is an exuberantly large number of F-bombs dropped in this book, but it did not bother me because curse words is the second language in my life! Thanks for allowing the pleasure to read this book before it was published! I am already hoping that book 2, Truth We Bear (as it is called at the end of book 1), is going to be available as an early ARC so I can request it too! Truthfully! The Epilog in Blakely’s POV might have been one of my favorite parts! In the meantime, am going to buy Blood Books: The Complete Series so I can read more from the mind of this author!

The chemistry between Jezebel and James is scorching hot from the moment they meet. I was drawn to the story based in their interaction alone.
When the element of danger is thrown into the mix, with the mystery of who the stalker could be, there wasn't a chance of going to sleep until I finished the book.
Both of the main characters have lost their family, so there's an underlying connection between them. Lies We Keep focuses on Jezebel's past, and how it's affected her daily life ever since.
With the help of her best friend Tara, and her new bodyguard, she must come to terms with her loss
All while fighting for her life against an unknown threat, that might be a lot closer than she realizes.
An amazing tale, woven with intrigue and romance. I immediately started the second book and will recommend Danielle Rose to anyone that'll listen!
