I love Palahniuk’s chaotic writing style. It really puts you into the mindset of our main character. Flash! It’s cynical in the best way. I didn’t guess all of the twists in this novel. It took me a bit to get up to speed with what was happening, but I really liked this book.

4.5 ⭐️ rounded up

this was the sixth of palahniuk’s works that i’ve had the pleasure of reading.

this also is many ppl’s favourite palahniuk book, and i can definitely understand why, though that place is still taken by fight club for me personally.

this was a fantastic read which made me once again appreciate palahniuk’s superior plotting ability. all of his works have that same element in common, where everything is ridiculous and out of this world but somehow still ends up working out so perfectly, with all these separate pieces that just seem to be there for the shock/craze factor in the beginning fitting perfectly together and making a whole, beautiful, horrific picture.

even that aside his writing is just so beautiful. it’s easy to talk about the crazy plots of these books, but when you look past that you get to read so many lines that just absolutely blow your mind and stick with you. he truly is an outstanding writer.

this book is a story of beauty and the lack thereof. love in all its forms, having it and losing it. revenge, vengeance, and the envy that causes it. wanting attention and wanting to be invisible.

this book is just outlandish plot and caricatures of humans on its surface, but when you look at it more closely you see the worst of humanity and of yourself reflected in these characters, and then you see how they get punished or live on or get better. you read these premises, and you don’t expect to be so reflective while you read, and then you get shocked.

i don’t think i can say anything more specific to the plot of this book because as always i’m just speechless and wouldn’t even know where to start.

i cannot wait to continue reading anything palahniuk has ever written <3
