On vacation I found this book inside a little free library. I had just finished my book and didn't want to drag the family into a bookstore for just me. Began the book on the beach and during the reading after getting home we had a storm and the house flooded. Took awhile for me to pick it up and while I did enjoy the read it felt very depressing for me while going through my own trauma. Life is well described in this book. Decisions have consequences my friends.

Imagine if Jane Austen were writing about the New York über-wealthy of the American Gilded Age. I had a great time with this tragic little novel of manners. What a surreal romp through antiquated and staggeringly elitist social mores. And the prose is delicious.
