I could have sworn that I had already wrote this one up months ago...obviously not. For fans of Babymouse, there is a new series featuring a one celled organism - Squish an amoeba. Similar to Babymouse, Squish must figure out a way to survive the daily challenges of school. A lot of fun. My copy has been passed around and around. Not sure what child has it anymore. This is a sign of a very promising book. :-)

I am really enjoying the graphic novel genre more than I thought I would.
Another fun series that kids, especially boys, will really enjoy. The Squish series has been out for awhile but since I'm new to this genre, it's new to me!
Lots of sarcasm in this book that I caught, but may go over some younger readers heads. The science part made me have to focus a bit more since I REALLY don't remember the whole amoeba-paramecium part of science :)
I know some 4th graders I'll be passing this along to!

Babymouse for boys!!!

Squish is an amoeba, living in his pond and dealing with the things that amoebas deal with. Like best friends that mooch your lunch money every day and figuring out how to stand up to bullies who might actually EAT YOU. As Squish imagines himself as the hero of his favorite comic books, he'll figure out how to stand up and be a hero himself!

With its green hues (no pink!) and kind of gross amoeba characters, this new series by Babymouse authors Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm is aimed at guys. Squish is everything we love about Babymouse - self-absorbed with a heart of gold, wonderfully imaginative, and infinitely relateable - but packaged for boys. I love seeing a guy character who uses his imagination. And some facts about microscopic life are thrown in there for good measure.

Hand this one to your Babymouse fans and to the boys who might have wanted to read Babymouse but were turned off by all the pink.

Silly little comic from the authors of Babymouse about an amoeba who daydreams himself into the comics he reads. He has to learn to be a hero to save a friend from being eaten by a bully. Silly, quick read that will be popular with the primary set. Not life changing.

Maybe it's just me, but it seemed like there was more... science than plot here? Didn't feel as inspired as Babymouse. I'll have to try a later book that isn't just introducing the characters.
