Honestly I didn’t really like it. We read it in school. I just couldn’t get into it and couldn’t concentrate on it

I just adore this book and have read it several times, though it's been quite a long while since my last reading.

Every time I read To Kill a Mockingbird I find something new to love. I've always been drawn to Scout and Atticus and Boo, and this go-around was no different. What was new this time around was that I found myself really appreciating and loving Miss Maudie and Jem in a whole new way.

I just finished rereading this book and I can honestly say it is still one of my favourites! I read it for 10th grade English and I remember really liking it and have been quite fond of it since, and now rereading in my early 20s I have fallen in love with it all over again. The point of view and characterization of Scout is really well done and the childlike perspective really helps the reader digest the racism and injustices without it feeling too heavy. To Kill a Mockingbird is funny, heartwarming, charming, intense, serious and deep when it needs to be and I think thats a huge strong suit of the novel. I've seen it be categorized as a southern gothic and its inspired me to read more of that genre! I was so worried that as my taste has matured that it wouldn't hold up to how I thought of it in early high school, but I'm very happy to say that not only do I love it just as much as I did then, but I now have a clearer understanding of it and can appreciate it even more.

I read this book the first time in my 9th grade English class and because that was a tough year for me, I wasn't fully present in class. Thank goodness for second chances; it is now in my top ten favorites!
