In this 400 page “thriller“ only the last hundred were actual page turners. Points though for Ing a thriller in a present day situation and for the enjoyable, realistic, seeming spy agency capabilities.
More importantly, this is the 23rd book (!) in a series featuring this protagonist and his sidekicks, but my first exposure. It would be completely unfair to judge it as a standalone in these circumstances. No doubt those who are fans of the series and have read many of the predecessors filled in depth on their own and enjoyed repeated foibles and tics that were invisible to the virgin reader of the series.

Daniel Silva is a great storyteller. The characters in the Gabriel Allon series come alive and are so real. I like the nods to history and current events. Worth reading multiple  times.
