What a pleasant surprise! A friend of mine read this for school and highly recommended it and boy am I glad I took her up on that.
It's rare that I find a very well written novel that is this enjoyable. The Chrysalids is the best book I have read this year.

This book felt so well observed and deftly constructed. In joining David through his childhood and into his adult years, we were introduced to and invited to explore with innocent eyes the religious zealots that held power in his community.

As we continue to discover more anecdotes that unfold throughout his formative years the sense of dread begins to creep in. This feeling only intensifies and the conclusion was one that I was utterly captivated by.
