Liked the original manga. loved both movies. So far this one is basically very pretty soft-core (apparently the Japanese release is hard-core) in which virtually all the dialogue and footnotes is technobabble. Halfway through. Hoping it will improve soon.
UPDATE: It did not. Made it 2/3 and then took it to Half Price Books.

What in the goddamn...
I'm glad I'm not the only person who had a hard time following what was going on. Seriously, the plot here was so convoluted. There were footnotes everywhere. Why are there two versions of Motoko (Aramaki and Kusanagi)?? Couldn't you just give one of them a different name?
The ass and tits shots were so gratuitous that they give Witchblade a run for its money. I was actually thinking, "Please just insert a XXX scene if your characters make you this horny" and then lo and behold there was a panel where Kusanagi is getting fucked by tentacles. No, seriously. But her pussy is blocked out.
The random mix of 3D and 2D art is jarring. The 3D doesn't look great. It's super out of place. But the 2D art is really well done--I appreciate the background art.
But yeah, it was hard to read this. Actually thought I was going to be physically sick if I didn't reach the ending soon.

I wanted to love this manga so bad. I loved the first one. I love the movies. I love the show! But this... the Major is now just Motoko, and she spends almost all her time floating in cyberspace shouting orders to donut-mouth AIs. There are almost no other characters in this -- certainly no one from the rest of the continuity. It has plenty of T&A, and some good action sequences, but no plot to hang them on. Add some pseudo-mystical handwaves, and... no. Just no. A few of the best scenes from this manga show up in S.A.C. 2nd Gig. Watch that instead.

Completely nonsensical technobabble and semi-nude pictures of unrealistically busty girls. Not that I have an issue with that, in principle, but it wasn't even interesting as fan-service.

Unnecessarily porny to the point of ridicule, the story too complex for its own good, the drawings too chaotic. A shame actually because overall the story ends up being interesting in the grand GiTS saga.
