I really enjoyed this book. It's a very easy read and the characters were great fun to get to know. I went in knowing nothing about hockey, which wasn't a problem as anything too technical was explained and the book largely focused on the team and their relationships off the ice. I did think there were a few points when the plot maybe moved a little too fast. I would have liked to spend a bit more time with each year, but overall, I really enjoyed this book and I will definitely be picking up the second one.

I liked this book but unlike the Heartstopper series I felt like it shied away from difficult topics almost immediately which is what I think failed the story from progressing in a more meaningful way. Even the romance felt forced due to the characters not being open with each other about issues that were brought up but quickly moved on from.
I would continue in this series but hope that that changes in the sequel at least a little bit because I like the characters and the found family aspect of the team but it feels negligent to bring up mental health issues, self-harm, and even dealing with a homophobic teammate and then to not address them in a meaningful way. Every issue seems very easily glossed over by the way of them just being friends and that solving everything which doesn’t really work.

I tried to read this as a webcomic and frankly found it too confusing. (Hi, I'm a million years old.) Most of that was ameliorated by the Real Book (tm) format -- most, but not all. It's still a little choppy and certain major moments are...skated around (sorry!) in a way that I find slightly frustrating. And, to be honest -- don't hate me -- I don't think Jack/Bitty is built up that well. Too much of it feels like it happens off page, or that it happens because it was the ship planned from the beginning, rather than an organic outgrowth of the characters and their relationship. I'm certainly not against it (it's unequivocally adorbs) but I don't feel it.
THAT SAID -- this is a fucking cute comic, y'all. Love the teaminess of it. Love so many of the background characters. Really adore Shitty, weirdly? In fact, I think I'm more into Shitty/Lardo than anything else?? Am I fired from the internet???
