This book is just some silly good fun! Reminded me of Road to El Dorado with its plot and fun character writing! The inclusion of such a well-written gay character was a very pleasant surprise as well ❤️ Really strong beginning & a charming ending, though the middle had some conflicts I didn’t really care for.

The narration had been really tight and charming for the most part, but I could feel it going AWOOOGA the second the prominent girl character showed up. She was great, but the narrator going GIRL?! GIRL?! GIRL?! got frustrating after a bit. Which bummed me out cause I love Eldrack :(
Granted, I don’t think it’s a problem with the writing per sé, I just don’t really enjoy the “Teenager who ogles over every girl he sees” archetype (which also bummed me out cause I otherwise loved Nigel as well :(()

3.5/5, rounded up cause its humour owns, and because I would have eaten this tf UP if we’d put this on as a road trip book.

Ridiculous, but fun. Agree with other reviewers that this is not a book for small children, due to violence and references to torture, and also agree that the nods to LOTR and Harry Potter are delightful if you understand and delightful if you don’t.

This is neither a kid's book nor entertaining enough for adults. It's aimless.

Audio book review.

Mr. McCormick is definitely a fan of LOTR. If parody is going to frustrate or offend you, please look away. Nine magical panties gifted to the lords of the realm, but one set of magical cufflinks to rule them all. The nose of Smoron. Elbow and his band of companions embarking from Rivenfell on a quest to destroy the cufflinks....Just, wow. I do like the comparisons, as I'm a fan (not a superfan) of the source material. The humor was just right, awkward and sarcastic, and the action was just dumb luck most of the time. Had a feel of Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon. Halfway through, I'm just thinking "How are you still alive?!?" Worth the read, if you're looking for a somewhat familiar tale with a cheeky twist.
