A sordid, associative, elegiac testament fit for a band like the Dan. Love, love, love.

author trying to be more quirky/clever than Steely Dan lyrics...a bit much.

what a riff-based book written by a Steely Dan should and does read like. if you're kind of an obsessive like me, not a lot of this will be new. The two new things I learned was
1) Reading Fagen as the Midnight Cruiser and Becker as the actually subversive and cool hipster he always wanted to be was pretty revelatory. Fagen is the White Hipster and Becker is the guy on the edge. Suddenly a lot of their music made a lot more sense for me at least.
2) completely missed Green Earrings was about a jewel thief! Duh! lol
in an interview for this book, the illustrator Joan LeMay referred to herself and Alex Pappademas as "spiritual boomers" which is kind of a troubling phrase lmao. Boomers are going to live forever, or at least until we all become them.
not all of Pappademas's associative riffs work for me but I guess this is the Pitchfork house style he developed and its the world we have to live in. when he does put forth an analysis (like reading Fagen as the Midnight Cruiser) that's when the writing shines.

“It’s like a dream come true.”
Quantum Criminals is page after page of complete joy. Fans of the Dan, rejoice! It reads as part SD fan magazine, part music criticism - 100% “so outrageous.” I can’t recommend this enough to fans of the greatest band since the Beatles.
