This is such a sweet and sad book. I remember my third grade teacher, Mrs. Dempsey, reading it to my class. I didn’t pick up on a lot of historical significance then. I’m glad I reread it.

Love this! Wish I would have read this when I was in middle school.I listened to the audiobook which I reccomend. This book made me feel similar to when I read Roll of thunder, Hear my cry. That book changed everything for me.
