I absolutely loved this book. This was one of the few I had to read in school that I enjoyed. I wish I could go back and re-read it for the first time. I read this in 6th grade(I think) and I'd recommend this one in a heartbeat- to kids and adults.

read the entirety of this novel on a 5 hour flight and loved every second of it. such a bittersweet little story, made me look crazy when i attempted to play it cool while i was choking back tears on the plane

I enjoy how the character Buddy is the number one stand-up-for-yourself person I've ever heard about. The way that he protects himself is awesome. Read this if you want a good book about a mentally strong character.

I liked this book, but the resolution could have been sweeter somehow. I liked when characters seem to tie together in some way and was a little dissapointed in the fact that Lefty only seemed to be a transport character.

I really wanted to see Bud talk with his Grandfather, but his Grandfather seemed to be an elusive character. It was like those dreams where you really want to talk to someone; you see the person and you know where the person is, but you're never allowed to talk to the person.

It was really bad. I don't know why I expected so much from a children's book (honestly I didn't but whatever). It was horrific. Its like if you took a piece of paper, soaked it in pickle juice, throw it in the dumpster, light it on fire, gather the ashes, and try to get a coherent story,

It was interesting to read this now that I have read The Mighty Miss Malone. It was great to see Deza again. I loved this historical fiction even on a re-read. It has just the right combination of humor and difficulties - neither overwhelming.
adventurous hopeful medium-paced
