Bud, Not Buddy (My Kindle Review)
Young Bud Caldwell’s story takes place during the Great Depression, as he lost his mother to illness and has been living in a foster family where he’s poorly treated. He makes the bold decision to escape them and go out on his own in Flint, Michigan to find the man who he believes might be his long lost father: famed jazz musician Herman E. Calloway. Along his travels, he’ll meet many interesting people and have his suitcase and list of unique rules that’ll help him.
Another incredible story from Curtis that has the same quirkiness as “The Watsons Go to Birmingham” but with a more emotional punch. Bud’s journey is full of surprises as he does whatever he can to find safety and the answers he looking for. When he does find them, it really change the story’s tone into a bittersweet one. In the end, it’s a wonderful story of growing up and never letting go of the memories of loved ones. A (100%/Outstanding)

Bud, he has has quite a life for just 10 years old. "You can KISS MY WRIST" I enjoyed this book.
Bud is a snippy, sarcastic 10 year old who runs away from his foster home in search of his father. He's written his own book “Bud Caldwell’s Rules and Things for Having a Funner Life and Making a Better Liar Out of Yourself,” and references it frequently. Real pictures in the back of the book of the real people mentioned are a nice touch. Overall, though, just not a very interesting book, instead it is mostly dull with not much variety. Parents may not be too keen on the lack of consequences.

When I read this book I was having my finals and I wanted a 100 page novel at most just to change my mood so I checked this our and it turned to be more than 300 but I was attached to it from the very first page why? Easy it had no boring introduction they just started the novel and instead of a boring introduction the write put an amazing epilogue with pic ures attached that made me love the novel even more after reading it.

This was one of my favorite childhood books. I recently discovered it in a thrift store and wanted to reread it.
Absolutely masterful in every sense of the word. Should be required reading.
Read for Newberry Challenge - 2000 winner. This was a pretty good book though everything fell into place really easily and the place to place jumps were a bit abrupt. For some reason I thought it had more of the musical/band element where he becomes a jazz player but it's been a long time since I first read this
A cute read! The audiobook even offered some music! I remember my middle son reading this one when he was in school. Set in the depression era…Bud’s mom died and he is in the old time version of foster care. Enjoyed his 10 year old take on life!
