Bud, not buddy by, Christopher Paul Curtis is a adventure/ suspense novel about an African American boy named Bud Caldwell. Bud is from a boys home. He was taken to the home after his mother died. After being sent to the home he was placed as a foster child. He has lived with many foster parents, but because he is light tempered, he usually gets sent back to the home for fighting.

the majority of the book is about Bud's quest to find his father, no matter the risk. Buds final foster home puts him with a racist white family, with an awful son. While staying with the family, the family's son abuses him, and blames him for horrible things. Therefore the dad of the family puts him in the old, creepy, and cold shed in the yard to sleep in during the night. Bud manages to escape with his suitcase filled with flyers of his dad. After escaping Bud hitch hikes to Chicago where his dad is located. While walking along side the road he encounters a friendly stranger that offers him a ride, cautiously accepting the offer Bud rides with the stranger. When they arrive in Chicago the stranger demands to see his father or else he'll send him back to the home. Then when they get to the jazz club, where his dad works, he talks with his dad, his dad refusing to admit he is his father, he reluctantly complies with Bud.

This book is an excellent display of Christopher writing. This book shows themes such as achievement through determination, and life teaching lessons. The author clear states the plot throughout the story, by showing simple remarks.

Overall the author, Christopher had shown excellent writings skills. By demonstrating the character Buds point of view added diversity from other books, letting the reader read from a child's point of view. This book is excellent for junior high school don't miss this book to read!!!
