I wasn't sure what to expect when I first began this book, but I was rather pleasantly surprised by this story! I liked the premise of the story well enough, but there were times where the storytelling voice seemed to shift into modern idioms and speech patterns and it was quite jarring at times, ruining the fantasy setting for me enough to remove a star from my rating. Once I ignored that, I found this to be quite the enjoyable read! I loved the romance that developed between the characters and the motley group that formed to deal with the problems of the kingdom. The story ended in an unorthodox, but ultimately satisfying manner!
