The last issue did a fantastic job setting up for this plot, and while it did have some ups and downs on the whole I found it to be really interesting. About half the issue was dedicated to the theme of the title/cover image, while the other half focused on what Constantine and the Thing have been up to.
I enjoyed both plots equally, but for completely different reasons. The first helped to ground and elaborate on Bobo’s character. It showed us some of his flaws, and gave him a reason to become reinvested in this first. It gave us a sense of resolution in the end, but also hinted at how things might have started going down the wrong path to begin with.
The Constantine side of things was significantly more intense, but not the way you’d expect. There was a lot of talking, but it was the sort of talking where you know something very bad is going to happen shortly. It took everything in me not to skip along and read all of these parts first (with the intention of going back and reading the other plot afterward, of course). But that wasn’t how the story was intended to be told, so I didn’t.
There is a scene that involves self harming here. It serves a purpose, so I think most people would be okay with it, but I wanted to mention it just in case.
