To steal from the tagline, this was an excellent book about food, feminism and fury. I follow the author on Threads (and previously on Twitter) and love her pithy, witty posts. Glad to see her posting style translates beautifully into book form.

In this hilarious, insightful collection of essays, DeRuiter manages to make me laugh-out-loud and cry (multiple times). She’s an engaging writer and it’s easy to be pulled into her stories. Relatable and fun - and at times when she describes things like social media vitriol and internet trolls - infuriating.

Her musings on writing/blogging and whether it was worth doing at all some days, hit me right in the gut. But a particular highlight of the book were the essays surrounding food. Although I’m no baker, the stories about perfecting a cookie recipe for her loved ones or researching a long-forgotten pie recipe for her papa read like warm hugs.

I loved this book and if you like food, writing, and feminism - you will too!!
