I like Junior. A lot. There were some additional characters added depth to the series. This series had a couple of fine puzzles to try to solve. And a good lot of laughs, too. On to the next one!

Junior Bender is the crook other crooks turn to when they need help. Sal DeGaudio is a cop who wants help for his uncle, Vinnie, accused of murdering a reporter who has apparently discovered a deep secret and was planning to blackmail Vinnie. Junior has to have a history lesson about the music industry between 1959 and 1963 and all the imitation Elvises who came out of the Philly music scene. A good twisty-turny plot with Junior and Louie the Loser trying to make the world safer for burglars everywhere.

First line: From behind his little pile of crumpled Tootsie Roll wrappers, DiGaudio said, "We can make you for the Hammer job".
This is #2 in the Junior Bender series. Junior is a burglar who occasionally acts as a PI/fixer for people who can't really go to the cops to fix their problems. This time it is the mobbed-up uncle of a cop who's being framed for a murder he announced he was going to commit.
After James Lee Burke, Tim Hallinan is my favorite writer. He writes fully believable characters, good guys, bad guys, men, women and teenage girls. And he does it with a wry sense of humor I just love.

As funny as Crashed, and as enjoyable. I found myself slow reading to prolong the story. A couple of characters are overdrawn (ALL the characters are overdrawn, but a couple are over-iverdrawn) including Junior's daughter, which is too bad because she's important to the ongoing narrative. No 13-year-old, no matter how special, talks like that.
