Hated, hated, hated the ending. But it's first in a trilogy, I guess? Therefore I forgive it.

This beautifully written novel had me captivated with its romance and emotional depth. The characters were well-developed, and the overall story flowed seamlessly – until the ending.

The abrupt conclusion left me yearning for closure. While I typically appreciate open-ended stories, this one felt frustratingly unresolved. An additional chapter or two could have significantly improved the reader's satisfaction.

Despite the disappointing finale, I awarded this book 4 stars. The writing quality and emotional journey were exceptional. However, be forewarned: this appears to be a standalone

This is another one of those books that falls somewhere between a 3 and a 4 in my mind. At its core, this is a love story. The two main characters are Daniel and Sofia and they've been falling in love yet never quite being together for 1200 years... life after life in different reincarnations. Daniel has the gift to remember all of his previous lives, whereas Sofia doesn't remember her past lives. The thing that made this book not quite reach the heights of a 4-star rating was the fact that some parts of the narrrative were a bit slow....and I didn't know if I had multiple lives to finish it. ;)

This book had all the makings of a 5-star review. I spent about a week with the audiobook, listening to and from my commutes to work. And then today, I finished. And immediately checked my iPod to see if I had forgotten to download a chapter or two. The ending alone was enough for me to drop 2 stars. I do understand that sometimes authors want to surprise readers or leave readers hanging. Sometimes it bothers me, but I generally understand the choices that the author has made and can respect, even if I'm not 100% satisfied. But this didn't fall into that category and I was extremely disapointed, and about 0% satisfied. I immediately ran to Goodreads and was relieved to find that I wasn't the only one who felt this way.

On the bright side, the premise really intrigued me and even sparked some dinner table conversation about a person's soul and memories and what happens when we die. The characters were likable, instantly relatable and well-fleshed out. I had similar feelings reading this book as I did when I read both The Night Circus and The Time Traveler's Wife (the former I adored, the latter I liked, but both had a sort of whimsical, romantic quality that stayed with me for a while).

It's too bad. My Name is Memory had all the makings to be one of my new favorite books, but I'm hesitant to even recommend it now because it doesn't feel finished. Is this going to be part of a series and I'm just not aware of it??
