The Clockwork Bride was a quick, enjoyable fantasy read that is presented in a unique manner. It features the titular short story, which introduces us to the hero Xander; followed by an unrelated short story, set in the same world, but about a different hero, Jink; followed by a novella, which also follows Xander; and one final short story, that again follows Jink.
My four-star rating breaks down as follows: Five stars for the brilliant, imaginative story and the unique fantasy world it lives in; Three stars for the writing, which seems a bit raw and unpolished.
The author, on the weblog Clockwork Storybook, alludes to a sequel where the two heroes meet. I look forward to reading it if and when it does.
Note: I found a digital copy of The Clockwork Bride for free on Wowio.
