interesting premise - not well executed

I enjoyed the mars needs women/fated mates theme mixed with stopping enemies from destroying earth. It was an overall interesting plot.
I liked the FMC and her frequent swearing. The MMC was a bit redundant for the sci fi romance world, but authors wouldn’t keep writing him if he wasn’t well loved.
I found the FMCs acceptance of all that happened to be unbelievable. The fact that she never ran screaming or acted scared of MMC in any way was unrealistic.

Spice: 2.5/5

Triggers: assault, dubcon (sex dust situation)

So, I didn't know it when I started reading it, but this is another Bingo board book! (Alcohol is a major plot point) This poor girl gets drugged via her wine a couple of times, once willingly, but still....the poor thing. The bad alien types are all over the place and the good alien guy is all alone trying to ferret them out and get to the root of the issue.

In the middle of it all...he finds his mate. I really liked the story line here, and the cover sold it for me. The pulp feel of the cover grabbed me and never let go. LOVE IT. (All three covers I've seen so far are amazing.)

Confession: 100% read this because the alien MMC wears a helmet that only his mate can remove. And I loved the cover.

It’s kitschy and enjoyable. This author is good with amusing asides and inner monologues. The story needed a little finesse and tightening up but it’s fun and doesn’t take itself seriously. It’s less than 200 pages and easy to read in an evening.

If you've ever had the hots for the alien from the Predator movies, then you may like this alien romance. I did! Thankfully
what's under his helmet isn't creepy like in the movies
. I got some Mandalorian vibes from Khaz having to wear his helmet all the time, too.

This story has the heroine trying to figure out the mystery of what's going on at her frenemy from high school's destination wedding. I was a little confused in the beginning because I feel like the explanation about the connection between the wedding and the suspicious company was not very clear. Eventually I understood that everyone at this wedding is from Brooklyn's home town where everyone seems to work for the same company, which is why everyone attending the wedding was at a company retreat prior to coming to this wedding. I feel like there may have been a plot hole/mistake about the company because towards the end Brooklyn calls it a bank but in the beginning I thought it was some company that sold stuff. I could have misread or misremembered things, but I felt confused about the details.

Overall I really enjoyed this story with action and mystery, even if it was a little corny with the wedding stuff at times. I think it was supposed to be light-hearted and humorous. This alien romance is different from others I've read because it's set on Earth with the aliens coming here to help us fight off their enemy.

I loved Khaz and how he wanted to wait to explain about being an alien and his culture to Brooklyn before fully being with her. There's  consent and thoughtfulness despite the instant attraction with the mate bond.

I'm looking forward to continuing the series and learning more about Khaz's brothers.
